A quick tour
Install it first, if you haven’t (Rust 1.89 or newer; other ways on the Install page):
cargo install maptermOpen the planet
Section titled “Open the planet”maptermWith no arguments mapterm opens the OpenFreeMap
planet, no account or API key needed. Scroll to zoom toward the cursor, drag to
pan, and press q to quit. The controls follow MapLibre
GL, the library behind many web maps.
Go somewhere
Section titled “Go somewhere”--at takes latitude then longitude, and -z a zoom level (0 is the whole
world, 14 is a neighborhood):

Roads, rivers and borders are braille characters, which give each cell a grid of 2×4 dots. Water, parks and buildings color the cell backgrounds, and labels are placed so they don’t overlap. While sharper tiles load, lower-zoom tiles stand in for them.
