Built-in terminal styles

What a terminal can show
Section titled “What a terminal can show”A character cell has one foreground color, one background color, and a character. So mapterm uses:
- Colors and opacity. Opacity is blended with the background, since cells
have no alpha; imagery’s
raster-opacitytoo, in cell-color mode. - Fills as cell backgrounds, lines as braille dots: one dot wide, two
dots for lines over 6 px wide and three over 14 px. Dashed lines
(
line-dasharray) come out dotted, and the pattern stays put while you pan. - Labels from
text-field, with bold and italic picked fromtext-font,text-transform,text-anchor,text-variable-anchor,text-offsetandsymbol-sort-key. Road names repeat along the road everysymbol-spacing. Labels never overlap; higher-priority ones win. - Icons as one-cell symbols: a point’s
icon-imagebecomes ✚ hospital, ✈ airport, ⋔ restaurant, ◡ café, Ⓑ bus stop and so on, when mapterm knows the icon. The built-in style shows points of interest from zoom 15. - Filters and zoom ranges, with full expressions, evaluated at the current zoom.
Blur, patterns, hillshading, sprites and 3D extrusions are skipped. When a style uses an expression mapterm doesn’t support, that one property falls back to its default (or the layer is hidden, for a filter), and the problem is noted rather than guessed at.
